What Is A Comprehensive Guidance Program?


The Fairfax R-3 School District has adopted the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Model. It is composed of the following four program components: guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive service, and system support. 
While the counselor is responsible for organizing and implementing the guidance program, the cooperation and support of the community, school personnel, and parents will be necessary in order to make it successful and beneficial to the students at Fairfax R-3 School.


I. Guidance Curriculum
The Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Model offers curriculum for students in grades kindergarten through twelve. Please feel free to review the curriculum with me at any time so that we can work together on meeting the needs of the students in our school. The curriculum addresses the following areas and is delivered through structured groups and classroom presentations.
Area I: Career Planning and Exploration
Career Awareness and Career Exploration
Area II: Knowledge of Self and Others
Self-Concept, Conflict Resolution, Personal Responsibility, Peer Relationships, Decision-Making Skills, Substance Abuse Prevention, and Cross-Cultural Understanding
Area III: Educational and Vocational Development
Study Skills, Planning Program of Study, Pre-Employment Skills, Job Preparation, and Post High School Decision Making

II. Individual Planning
Advisement, Student Educational, and Occupational Planning

III. Responsive Services
Individual Counseling, Small Group Counseling, Consultation, and Referral.

IV. System Support
Management Activities, Consultation, and

Community
